Durante la Guerra Civil, un total de 35000 niños tuvieron que ser evacuados a otros países, muchos fueron a Francia, Bélgica, Reino Unido, Unión Soviética y México. Todos ellos procedentes de la zona republicana. Padecieron un enorme sufrimiento ya que tuvieron que separarse de sus familias. Este acontecimiento cambiaría sus vidas para siempre.

Muchos años más tarde, cuando volvieron a España muchos tuvieron problemas para adaptarse ya que, entre otras cosas, tenían que aprender castellano.
Uno de estos niños fue Olvido Rodríguez (Mieres), que tuvo que salir de España en 1937 junto a sus dos hermanas: Aurora y Argentina. Ella dijo: «No sabía que estaban a bordo, cuando las vi en el barco entrelazamos nuestros brazos y gritamos que no nos separarían». Fueron 3.500 niños como ella los que se quedaron en la URSS.  Tuvieron que esperar a la muerte de Stalin para poder volver al país a pesar de la negativa del Partido Comunista a que regresaran mientras estuviera la dictadura de Franco.

During the Civil War, a total of 35,000 children had to be evacuated to other countries, many went to France, Belgium, the United Kingdom, the Soviet Union and Mexico. All of them coming from the republican zone. They suffered enormous pain because they had to be separated from their families. This event would change their lives forever.
Many years later, when they returned to Spain many had adaptation problems since they had to learn Spanish among other things.

One of these children was Olvido Rodríguez (Mieres), who had to leave Spain in 1937  with his two sisters: Aurora and Argentina. She said: «I did not know they were on board, when I saw them on the boat we embraced and shouted that they would not separate us.» There were 3,500 children like her who stayed in the USSR. They had to wait for the death of Stalin to be able to return to the country despite the negative from the Spanish Communist Party to return while Franco’s dictatorship.
